Townside Excursion Zone
The following map identifies Riverton Childcare’s approved regular walking excursion area within Riverton township. Regular excursions may occur within this area, subject to approved ratios, active supervision, RAMS procedures, and Person Responsible approval.
Approved regular excursion area – Riverton township north of the bridge (Jetty St), up to and including Longwood Care Home (Albany St). Locations may include parks, beaches, the library, schools, shops, sporting venues, community facilities, emergency services, and other places of educational interest and community connection within Riverton township.
Note: This map is intended to support excursion planning and whānau understanding of the regular excursion area. Active supervision, professional judgement, and approved excursion procedures remain in place at all times.
Regular Excursion RAMS – Riverton Township Area
Method of Travel - Walking only.
Standard Ratio - Minimum 1:5 adult-to-child ratio unless a higher ratio is determined necessary due to the environment, weather conditions, ages and needs of tamariki, or identified risks.
Communication Systems
· Kaiako undertaking excursions will carry a charged mobile phone.
· Excursion records/stamps will identify the destination, adults and tamariki attending, and expected return time.
· Tamariki attending excursions will be identified on attendance records with an “E” beside their name.
· If no adults remain at the Childcare premises, information regarding the excursion location and contact details will be left visible at the Childcare.
Emergency Information
· A qualified first aider will accompany excursions.
· A first aid kit and emergency contact information will be taken on excursions.
· Any required individual medication (eg inhalers, EpiPens) will accompany the relevant tamaiti.
· Kaiako will contact emergency services and/or the Childcare as required.
