The Explorers are our youngest tamariki, 3 months – 2 years. They learn in our new building, which is warm, sunny and designed with the young tamariki in mind.
There is a large carpeted lounge area, a sunny dining area, two sleep rooms and an extensive outdoor area with easy indoor/outdoor access. There is an adult:child ratio of 1:4 in this room.
The Adventurers are our 2-3-year olds and they are learning in our original building.
They have a well-resourced room, with an outdoor classroom, a very large sandpit and a lovely, well established outdoor area.
The tamariki in this room are often learning to toilet train, are still sleeping and are learning the routines and rituals of Riverton Childcare. There is an adult:child ratio of 1:8 in this room.
The Navigators are our oldest tamariki, some who have been with us since they were tiny. They are our 4 and 5 year olds. The goals of the Navigators room are to increase their independence, strengthen their willingness to give things a try, and to develop their school-readiness. These children are in the west end of our original building. They have their own learning space, their own mat and mealtimes and special jobs to help around the Childcare to improve the tuākana/tēina relationships.
They share the outdoor area with the Adventurers and there is an adult:child ratio of 1:10 in this room.
