The following are identified as potential hazards at Riverton Childcare:

  • The outside door and the internal gate must be shut after use, so there is no possibility of tamariki leaving the Childcare unattended.
  • Because of the nature of the tamariki play, there are often toys and other play equipment left on the floor.  Please be careful where you step.
  • As in every situation, floors maybe slippery if they are wet.
  • Electrical sockets must have safety plugs fitted when not in use, and all electrical cords must be kept out of the reach of tamariki if possible.
  • Hot drinks must be consumed in the kitchen.
  • Sharp instruments must be kept out of reach of tamariki.
  • The furniture and play equipment in the Childcare is low to the ground and can cause difficulties for people not used to low furniture.  Please be careful when moving around the Childcare, particularly when you are carrying a child or bag etc and cannot always see the low furniture.
  • All chemicals and cleaning supplies must be kept out of the reach of tamariki.
  • The resource room and kitchen are “out-of-bounds” to tamariki in all situations. Kitchen and resource room doors must be shut when unattended.
